Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is built on voluntary contributions for the common good. It is a tradition of generosity and sharing that enhances the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy earns the trust and respect of the public, and that donors and potential donors have full confidence in the non-profit organizations they support, we affirm that all donors have the following rights:

To Be Informed

about the organization’s mission, how donated funds will be used, and its ability to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

To Know

the identities of those serving on the organization’s governing board and to expect them to exercise sound judgment in their stewardship.

To Have Access

to the organization’s most recent financial statements

To Be Assured

that their contributions will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

To Receive

proper acknowledgment and recognition

To Privacy

To have their donation information handled with confidentiality and respect, in accordance with the law.

To Professionalism

To expect professionalism in all interactions with representatives of the organization.

To Be Informed

whether those soliciting donations are volunteers, employees, or hired fundraisers.

To Opt-Out

the option to remove their name from mailing lists the organization may share
